Shelley Wood is a Manchester-based artist specialising in hand-built clay pieces. Her projects range from vessels and tiles to jewellery and more.
Having graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Arts (Ceramic), Shelley uses layering and a hands-on approach to experiment with texture, shape and form through drawing, surface marking, scraffito and lino pressing. After taking time away from sculpting to work full-time in the design industry while also raising two sons, Shelley has finally returned to her craft and is happiest when making.
Starting with a slab of clay which is then torn apart and then sculpted back together, the layers, imprints and impressions are inspired by people, places and events.
Each piece is completely unique with bumps, wobbles and scrapes. After all, perfect is boring.
