My Story
Hello!
My name is Shelley Wood and I am a ceramic artist based in Mossley (Greater Manchester). My work specializes in hand-built clay pieces. My projects range from vessels and tiles to jewellery and more.

Having graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Arts (Ceramic), my work uses layering with an experimental hands-on approach to experiment with texture, shape, and form through drawing and surface marking. After taking time away from making to work full time in the creative design industry while also raising my two sons, I am finally focusing full time on my craft, making and creating workshops to share my love of clay with others.

Studio and practice
Starting with slabs of clay, the majority of my clay work is made using various layers of clay, which are torn apart and then sculpted back together. The layers represent a person’s emotional journeys through life, mapping the places you have been and the people you have met along the way through marks and patterns.
The multiple layers are created using lino cuttings, mono printing, sgraffito, and slabbed pressed reliefs. Each piece is completely unique with bumps, wobbles, and scrapes.
